My Favorite iPhone Apps

I frequently get asked what my favorite iPhone apps are. I’ll take a little aside here for you iPhone users are share my favorites!

TweetDeck – I use this one constantly. It manages my Facebook and Twitter feeds, allowing me to sort my interests into columns for easy access. TweetDeck can get temperamental sometimes, but I find it to be more feature-rich and less cumbersome than other Twitter apps I’ve tried.

WordPress – I use this app to manage my WordPress blog. I can post, approve comments, and more on the go. Very useful for WP bloggers!

Wikipedia – Because I that much of a nerd that I need wiki answers at my fingertips! (Although, the mobile version of the Wikipedia app is basically the same as the app.)

Dragon Dictation – I’m not one of those people that types faster on the iPhone than a regular keyboard (you know them, too!). It takes me forever to type a simple email from my iPhone. Dragon makes it easy for me to speak my emails, texts, etc. and post them with ease.

Mint – A really incredible free app. Mint incorporates all of your financial accounts (checking, savings, credit cards, investments, etc.) into one stream of live data. It allows you to monitor your budget in real time.

Nook App – My wife has a Nook and loves it for hours of reading. (Of course, the iPhone, iPad, etc. aren’t conducive to reading lengthy novels or reading in direct sunlight.) With the Nook App, my wife can loan me books from her Nook. I can also check out free e-books from the library with this app.

Snap Tell – The cheap-o in me rings out with this app. I take a picture of the cover of a book, game, DVD, or CD and… voila, I have price comparisons to help me make a quick decision.

Walgreens – Easiest way I’ve found to renew my prescriptions. (I feel old having this on my list.)

NPR – Brings my drive-time radio addiction with me for the stories that I almost missed.

Logos – I really only use Logos for the Hebrew/Greek tools that it has.

YouVersion – I love the versatility and collaboration provided by this app!

Hipstamatic – I’m a little bit of a photo nerd. Hipstamatic does some cool, simple edits for fast publishing. It makes an amateur feel like a pro.

MyFitnessPal – Recording calories? This app makes it easy. It has a HUGE database. Almost anything I’ve ever searched for is in there.

RunKeeper – Tracks my cycling with a GPS map, average speed, total time, and calories burned.

Is There an App for That?

I love my iPhone.  Apple has done an excellent job in creating an extremely loyal fan base.  It may be a huge error, however, to limit your church’s site’s potential by exclusively focusing on the iPhone.

The NPD Group is now reporting that mobile devices running on Google’s Android platform now outnumber iPhones.  The iPhone has fallen from its previous position as the #2 stakeholder (Blackberry’s RIM platform remains #1) to be #3 to Android-based systems.

What does this mean for your church?  Before you invest heavily in customizing your site for an iPhone experience, consider making an overall mobile experience your priority.  With the iPhone holding 21% of the market, it’s a huge force.  Don’t forget about the other 79% of users that will be accessing your site.  They want to interact with you, too!
